Sorry, no winner this week. Here is my weekly weather quiz question one more time. What is the first thing you would notice at the beach when a Tsunami was approaching and what should you do? Here is the correct answer. As a Tsunami approaches the shallower waters at the shoreline it pulls the water offshore. What you see at the beach is a lot more beach. Often, mainly tourists, walk out onto this “extended beach” to collect seashells only to be crushed by the Tsunami wave and then drawn back out to sea as the wave retreats. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

Advisories: A HEAT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY UNTIL 9 PM TUESDAY FOR THE I-5 CORRIDOR FROM PORTLAND THROUGH EUGENE/SPRINGFIELD, THE WESTERN COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE, THE NORTH OREGON CASCADE FOOTHILLS, THE CASCADE FOOTHILLS IN LANE COUNTY, AND THE HOOD RIVER VALLEY.

An upper level low pressure trough (Shaded “U” shape) is just offshore and will hold there for another day or so. A ridge of high pressure has been controlling our weather, then low pressure will move in off the coast. A frontal system is stuck offshore and only the warm frontal portion is having an effect on us making it quite humid. It will eventually fall apart as it is caught in the southerly flow of the low stuck along the coast. For the 4th of July it looks like the upper level low will stay to our northwest over the Pacific Ocean while high pressure will stuck in from the Great Basin. That should keep the sunny and very warm conditions with us through July 3rd. There will be a delicate balancing act between the high and low. As the high weakens enough or pushes just a bit to the east we will see the low start to take over a bit returning some clouds. The low will start cooling us off with some more clouds and cooler temperatures Thursday the 4th. The high temperatures will cool to the more comfortable mid 80s for the 4th of July Holiday.
