It took an extra day, but we have a winner for my weekly weather quiz. Here is the question. What is the “Green Sky” effect? Congratulations to Amber for being the first person to post the correct answer. Here is what she posted. I believe that the green sky effect means bad weather is coming, such as a tornado. The sky is blue due to the scattering of light from the water droplets, which means that sky turns green when there is an excess of water droplets in the air. This is not the same this as the green flash phenomenon. But I am sure that both are gorgeous. Great answer! Amber wins a week of free personalized forecasts. I’ll have another quiz question for you on Monday. Remember, the first person to post the correct answer will win one week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs.

A high pressure ridge (the “arch” formed by the blue arrows sitting over the Pacific Northwest) is weakening and will be replaced by an upper level low (the “U” formed by the blue arrows) behind it. Notice the blue arrows from the low are moving toward us and bringing the airflow more from the Southwest which brings in more moisture and a new frontal system that will move in from the Northwest. By Wednesday another storm system will be poised to push more rain into Oregon.
