Advisories: There is a Blue-Green Algae warning that continues for Dexter Reservoir and Dorena Reservoir has just been added to the list. Water monitoring has confirmed the presence of blue-green algae that can produce toxins, state public health officials said. The algae levels are likely associated with dangerous cyanotoxin concentrations in the water that can be harmful to humans and animals. Swallowing or inhaling water droplets, as well as skin contact with water, should be avoided according to the authorities.

An upper level low (“U” shape with blue arrows) has moved to the south and is settling to the along the California/Oregon coast sending warmer air our way. High pressure (“Arch”shape in blue arrows) has take over long enough to heat us up a bit. The airflow continues to bringing a chance of isolated, mainly dry, thunderstorms over the mountains and spread smoke from existing wildfires. The southerly airflow for the next couple of days will mean that smoke from those wildfires has already started to seep into the South Willamette Valley. The weather for the Scandinavian Festival in Junction City that begins Thursday and continues through Sunday will be partly cloudy and cooler, in the 80s with a slight chance of a thunderstorm. I’ll keep you updated on that as we get closer to the weekend.

The Perseid meteor shower is in progress. The maximum number of “shooting stars” from the comet Swift-Tuttle will be visible after midnight Sunday through Tuesday. There could be as many as 50 sighted per hour as they move from the NE quadrant of the sky. For best viewing go to where there are no city lights to brighten the sky.
