Advisories:

A HEAT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TODAY UNTIL 9 PM TONIGHT FOR THE ENTIRE I-5 CORRIDOR FROM PORTLAND SOUTH THROUGH EUGENE-SPRINGFIELD TO JUST SOUTH OF COTTAGE GROVE. TEMPERATURES WILL EXCEED 90 DEGREES IN THE VALLEYS INTO THE CASCADE FOOTHILLS. TAKE PRECAUTIONS BY DRINKING PLENTY OF WATER DURING ANY OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES.

A Blue-Green Algae warning continues for Dexter Reservoir, Dorena Reservoir, and Fern Ridge Reservoir, and farther away at Devils Lake. Water monitoring has confirmed the presence of blue-green algae that can produce toxins, state public health officials said. The algae levels are likely associated with dangerous cyanotoxin concentrations in the water that can be harmful to humans and animals. Swallowing or inhaling water droplets, as well as skin contact with water, should be avoided according to the authorities.

An upper level high pressure ridge shaded “Arch” shape has taken over our weather for a while and will stay put through the end of the week then another upper level low pressure trough will move toward the Oregon coast to replace it. Today will also be on the humid side as the dew point will hover in the low 60s. A frontal system will edge its way into Oregon by early next week and that should start to cool us back down and possibly produce some precipitation. Autumn begins at 1:44 PM Friday September 22nd, so Summer is nearly over.
