No winner this week. Here is my weekly weather quiz question one more time. What are the differences among freezing rain, sleet, and hail? Now the correct answer. Freezing Rain i rain that falls as a liquid but freezes into glaze upon contact with the ground or other cooler surfaces. Sleet is defined as pellets of ice composed of frozen or mostly frozen raindrops or refrozen partially melted snowflakes. These pellets of ice usually bounce after hitting the ground or other hard surfaces. And lastly, Hail is showery precipitation in the form of irregular pellets or balls of ice more than 5 mm in diameter, falling from a cumulonimbus cloud. A Blue-Green Algae warning has been lifted for Dorena Reservoir and Dexter Reservoir,  but continues for Fern Ridge Reservoir, Walterville Pond, and farther away at Devils Lake. Water monitoring has confirmed the presence of blue-green algae that can produce toxins, state public health officials said. The algae levels are likely associated with dangerous cyanotoxin concentrations in the water that can be harmful to humans and animals. Swallowing or inhaling water droplets, as well as skin contact with water, should be avoided according to the authorities.

An upper level low sitting over the Pacific Northwest helping to return the wet weather. A frontal system is moving through Oregon bringing rain and increased winds. The remnants of Typhoon Pabuk from the Western Pacific will be pushed our way by the jet stream and that could mean a lot of rain for us.
