Sorry, no winner this week. Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is a “waterspout?” Here is the correct answer. A Waterspout In general, is a tornado occurring over water. Specifically, it normally refers to a small, relatively weak rotating column of air over water beneath a Cb or towering cumulus cloud. Waterspouts are most common over tropical or subtropical waters.
The exact definition of waterspout is debatable. In most cases the term is reserved for small vortices over water that are not associated with storm-scale rotation (i.e., they are the water-based equivalent of landspouts). But there is sufficient justification for calling virtually any rotating column of air a waterspout if it is in contact with a water surface. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

An upper level low (Shaded “U” shape) is positioned perfectly to keep the storm going. Our airflow is coming from the north-northwest bringing much colder air and the chance for more snow. A frontal system is producing more precipitation and with the cold temperatures we will see more ice forming. Another low has moved in today keeping the messy weather around for at least another day. The snow and ice may look pretty, but it is still dangerous out there. At least it’s melting now.
