No winner this week. Here is my new weekly weather quiz question for the last time. Define the term “Texas Hooker,” and no your first guess doesn’t count. Here is the correct answer. A Texas Hooker is the same as Panhandle Hook – low pressure systems that originate in the panhandle region of Texas and Oklahoma which initially move east and then “hook” or recurve more northeast toward the upper Midwest or Great Lakes region. In winter, these systems usually deposit heavy snows north of their surface track. Thunderstorms may be found south of the track. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. A high pressure ridge (Shaded “Arch” shape) has moved over to the east to allow a trough of low pressure (Shaded “U” shape) behind it to bring the rain back a bit sooner than I expected. Another frontal system that will be moving in from the west tonight and Sunday has pushed the moisture field well ahead of it resulting in the early increase in rainfall.
