No winner this week. Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. Define “Normal” as it is used by the National Weather Service. Here is the correct answer. Normal is the long-term average value of a meteorological paramater (i.e., temperature, humidity, etc.) for a certain area. For example, “temperatures are normal for this time of year” means that temperatures are at or near the average climatological value for the given date. Normals are usually taken from data averaged over a 30-year period (e.g., 1971-2000 average), and are concerned with the distribution of data within limits of common occurrence. I’ll have a new weekly weather question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

An upper level low (Shaded “U” shape with blue arrows) over the Gulf of Alaska will move eastward, but say to the north of us. High pressure (“Arch” shape in blue arrows offshore) will continue to keep enough onshore flow that there will be morning and late night clouds. A cold front will move into Oregon late Friday night and Saturday.
