Here is my weekly weather quiz question. What is “radiational cooling?” Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

Now an upper level high pressure ridge (Shaded “Arch” shape with blue arrows) will weaken allowing some onshore airflow which will cool us rapidly back to normal. Upper level low pressure (Shaded “U” shape on previous graphic) will bring more onshore airflow to begin the cooling trend. A cold front (position shown is Friday) will move in by Thursday cooling our high temperatures. So far it looks like the 4th of July will be a nice dry day with temperatures that are cooler, but just about normal. With luck it will hold for the holiday weekend too, but we’ll have to wait and see.
