No winner/ Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is an “Environmental Temperature Sounding?” Here is the correct answer. An Environmental Temperature Sounding is an instantaneous or near-instantaneous sounding of temperature as a function of height. This sounding or vertical profile is usually obtained by a balloon-borne instrument, but can also be measured using remote sensing equipment. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz queston for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

A ridge of high pressure (“Arch” shape in blue arrows) is sitting east of us and will keep the sunshine and warmer temperatures with us into next week. Then low pressure will start to influence our weather along with a frontal system that looks like it will be preparing to visit the Pacific Northwest to start cooling us off by the end of next week. The Perseid Meteor shower has begun. It will continue and peak on the night of August 12.
