Sorry, but no winner this week. Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is  “popcorn convection?” Here is the correct answer. Popcorn Convection is slang for showers and thunderstorms that form on a scattered basis with little or no apparent organization, usually during the afternoon in response to diurnal heating. Individual thunderstorms typically are of the type sometimes referred to as air-mass thunderstorms: they are small, short-lived, very rarely severe, and they almost always dissipate near or just after sunset. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

An upper level trough of low pressure (Shaded “U” shape with blue arrows) will  swing to the south and east at us increasing the onshore airflow. That will continue the cooling trend and hopefully scour out the smoke from the wildfires that surround us. As the winds shifted more from the Southwest smoke from the wildfire west of Cottage Grove moved in particularly in the South Hills of Eugene. The increased onshore airflow could mix the air enough to cut back the smokey haze.
