What is a “Turkey Tower?” Here is the correct answer. Turkey Tower is slang for a narrow, individual cloud tower that develops and falls apart rapidly. The sudden development of turkey towers from small cumulus clouds may signify the breaking of a cap. I’ll have another weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. An upper level high pressure ridge (Shaded “Arch” shape with blue arrows) has moved in closer to the Pacific Northwest taking over for the weekend. The official rain total for Eugene Wednesday was 0.74 inches while my rain gauge showed 1.28 inches of rain and of course more fell Thursday. I measured only 0.06 inches in my rain gauge while the Weather Service reported 0.05 inches for Thursday. A frontal system (position shown is Tuesday) will move into Oregon Monday returning cooler temperatures and the chance of showers.

• A HEALTH ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE PRESENCE OF BLUE-GREEN ALGAE IN CULLABY LAKE JUST OFF HWY 101 BETWEEN ASTORIA AND SEASIDE IN CLATSOP COUNTY OREGON. THE TOXIC ALGAE BLOOM MEANS THAT PEOPLE SHOULD NOT DRINK OR HAVE DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE AFFECTED WATER AND THAT ALSO GOES FOR ANY PETS.
