No winner this week. Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is “ wind shear?” Here is the correct answer.Wind Shear is the rate at which wind velocity changes from point to point in a given direction (as, vertically). The shear can be speed shear (where speed changes between the two points, but not direction), direction shear (where direction changes between the two points, but not speed) or a combination of the two.  I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

The upper level trough of low pressure that helped cause the windy conditions Thursday is moving away from us as an upper level high replaces it to clear us out for most of the weekend.

THE GEMINID METEOR SHOWER: The best meteor shower of the year, the Geminids, peaks this weekend when Earth passes through a stream of debris from “rock comet” 3200 Phaethon. Forecasters expect to see as many as 120 meteors per hour when the shower peaks on Dec. 13th and 14th. Visit SpaceWeather.com for photos and observing tips. Look for openings in the clouds at night and view away from city lights.
