Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is “coalescence?” Here is the correct answer. Coalescence is the process by which water droplets in a cloud collide and come together to form raindrops. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

A sprawling high pressure ridge (Shaded “Arch” shape with blue arrows) sitting just east of  us kept us cool and dry today. A strong cold front is on its way here from the northwest. It will bring back the chance of precipitation and behind it a mass of cold air that will drop snow levels in the area down to about 1,000 ft. No snow expected for the Willamette Valley, yet anyway. An upper level low (Shaded “U” shape with blue arrows) will replace the high continuing the wet weather pattern through the Pacific Northwest.
