Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is a “Roll Cloud?” Here is the correct answer. A  Roll Cloud is a low, horizontal tube-shaped arcus cloud associated with a thunderstorm gust front (or sometimes with a cold front). Roll clouds are relatively rare; they are completely detached from the thunderstorm base or other cloud features, thus differentiating them from the more familiar shelf clouds. Roll clouds usually appear to be “rolling” about a horizontal axis, but should not be confused with funnel clouds. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

Another upper level high pressure ridge (Shaded “Arch” shape with blue arrows) will keep us warmer than normal for one more day Monday then upper level low pressure (Shaded “U” shape on previous graphic) starts taking over. A frontal system (shown out to the Northwest over the Pacific Ocean) will return the chance of showers by late Monday into Tuesday. By next Sunday another frontal system will be moving into the Pacific Northwest.
