Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is a “Stilling Basin?” Here is the correct answer. A Stilling Basin, in hydrologic terms, is a basin constructed to dissipate the energy of fast-flowing water (e.g., from a spillway or bottom outlet), and to protect the streambed from erosion. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

Upper level Low Pressure (Shaded “U” shape with blue arrows) gives us the impetus for the change in our weather pattern. A frontal system moved through the Pacific Northwest keeping us in showers. Take a look at the frontal system that will be moving in Tuesday. High Pressure at the surface (“H” shown offshore) and aloft will take over bringing back the sunshine and warmer temperatures. The 2016 Olympic Team Trials that continue through Sunday at Hayward Field will encounter the chance of showers through the rest of the competition, as you can see in the forecast.

People should avoid swallowing water while swimming or inhaling water droplets as a result of high-speed water activities, such as water skiing or power boating, in areas where blooms are identified. Although toxins are not absorbed through the skin, people who have skin sensitivities may experience a puffy, red rash at the affected area.
