The Jet Stream (Shaded shape in blue arrows) is setting up with Zonal Flow meaning the air is moving from West to East sending marine moisture straight at us. One cold front pushed through and another is on the way Monday. A complex frontal system is shown offshore next Friday. Just in case you were wondering when Summer officially ends here is the answer. The Autumnal Equinox occurs at 7:21 PDT next Thursday September 22nd.

Advisories:

  • A Blue-Green Algae Health Advisory has been lifted for Howard Bay (sometimes called Howards Bay or Howard’s Bay) in Upper Klamath Lake ONLY. Tests show the blue-green algae bloom is no longer present.
  • A Health Advisory remains in effect for ocean water contact at Neskowin Beach located in Tillamook County due to higher than normal levels of fecal bacteria. Contact with the water can result in diarrhea, stomach cramps, skin rashes, upper respiratory infections and other illnesses. Direct contact with the water should be avoided in this area until the advisory is lifted, especially by children and the elderly who may be more vulnerable to waterborne bacteria. Visitors should avoid wading in nearby creeks, pools of water on the beach, or in discolored water, and stay clear of water runoff flowing into the ocean.
  • A Health Advisory remains in effect for ocean water contact at Nye Beach located in Lincoln County due to higher than normal levels of fecal bacteria. Contact with the water can result in diarrhea, stomach cramps, skin rashes, upper respiratory infections and other illnesses.Direct contact with the water should be avoided in this area until the advisory is lifted, especially by children and the elderly who may be more vulnerable to waterborne bacteria. Visitors should avoid wading in nearby creeks, pools of water on the beach, or in discolored water, and stay clear of water runoff flowing into the ocean.
  • A Blue-Green Algae Health Advisory remains in effect for Agency Lake. Agency Lake is located just north of Upper Klamath Lake near Klamath Falls along Highway 97 in Klamath County. Water monitoring on the lake has confirmed the presence of high levels of blue-green algae and associated toxins that can be harmful to people and animals. Swallowing water while swimming or inhaling water droplets as a result of high-speed water activities, such as water skiing and power boating, should be avoided in areas where blooms are identified. Although toxins are not absorbed through the skin, contact with cells from a bloom can cause skin irritation and a red, puffy rash in individuals with skin sensitivities, or those who develop rashes easily.
