An upper level low pressure trough (Shaded “U” shape area with blue arrows) is sending more storms our way.  A frontal system will push into the Pacific Northwest today as you can see on the days 1,2 & 3 graphic with the warm front first followed by a cold front. The graphic for days 3-7 shows the typical parade of storms that bring our Autumn rain. There will be continued snow on the Cascade Passes but snow levels will continue to rise and fall. Willamette Pass has indicated they are open starting today. Hoodoo ski area plans to open Saturday December 3rd. Mt. Ashland announced Wednesday that they are starting their ski season early- this Sunday December 4th. It looks like the ski season has a good chance of starting reasonably early this year. For mountain snow conditions check out their websites or give them a call.

Advisories:

  • A BEACH HAZARD STATEMENT IS IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON FOR THE SOUTH CENTRAL OREGON COAST AND THE CURRY COUNTY COAST. THAT MEANS LARGE BREAKERS ARE EXPECTED MOST OF THE DAY ON SATURDAY WITH HIGHEST POTENTIAL FOR DANGEROUS WAVE RUNUP ON BEACHES LATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON. JETTIES AND SURF ZONES WILL BE ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS.
  • A Permanent Health Advisory remains for the South Umpqua River and Lawson Bar. Pools in the bedrock along the rivers edge are known to develop Blue-green Algae (cyanobacterial) blooms that can be harmful to pets and people if accidental ingestion occurs. Signs have been posted along several access areas along the river.
  • A Blue-Green Algae Health Advisory remains in effect for Agency Lake. Agency Lake is located just north of Upper Klamath Lake near Klamath Falls along Highway 97 in Klamath County. Water monitoring on the lake has confirmed the presence of high levels of blue-green algae and associated toxins that can be harmful to people and animals. Swallowing water while swimming or inhaling water droplets as a result of high-speed water activities, such as water skiing and power boating, should be avoided in areas where blooms are identified. Although toxins are not absorbed through the skin, contact with cells from a bloom can cause skin irritation and a red, puffy rash in individuals with skin sensitivities, or those who develop rashes easily.
