Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is an“Adiabatic Lapse Rate?” Here is the correct answer. An Adiabatic Lapse Rate is the rate of decrease of temperature experienced by a parcel of air when it is lifted in the atmosphere under the restriction that it cannot exchange heat with its environment. For parcels that remain unsaturated during lifting, the (dry adiabatic) lapse rate is 9.8°C per kilometer. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for yopu starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer at the bottom of this page. An email will not suffice. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. Good luck.

An Upper level High (Shaded “Arch” shape with blue arrows) to our Northwest is still sending cold air down to us from Canada. The days 1-3 graphic shows surface low and frontal system brought us another snow and ice storm as the warm air ahead of the front met the cold air already in place at the surface. The graphic for days 3-7 shows another series frontal systems that will be headed our way next week. For mountain snow conditions at the local ski areas check out their websites or give them a call.
