Since we have a winner here is my weekly weather quiz question one last tine. This is a technical question. What has a “Sling Psychrometer” been used for in weather prediction? Congratulations to Dan Kelly for being the first person to post the correct answer which follows. “A Sling Psychrometer is used to determine wet bulb and dry bulb temperature. WB and DB Temps are used to get relative humidity, and dew points. A change in Dew points can indicate arrival of a new air mass. A Sling Psychrometer consists of 2 thermometers, one is used as is, the other is covered with a muslin sleeve and the sleeve is saturated with water. The Sling Psychrometer is then twirled for several minutes, then both temperatures are read. that is why the name wet bulb and dry bulb.” I’ll have another weather quiz question for you starting next Monday. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free weather personalized forecasts tailored to your needs.

A weak cold front fell apart as it moved through Oregon. An upper level High Pressure ridge (“Arch” shaped shaded area) will build up and protect us from any storms for a short while. Another large trough of low pressure (“U” shaded area over the ocean) will come in behind the ridge by late in the week. A cold front will be moving through the Pacific Northwest Friday bringing back more wet weather. Yet another frontal system will march through on Sunday.
