What is a “rain shadow?” For extra ah ha points how does it work in Oregon weather? Here is her answer: “A rain shadow is the dry side of the mountain…caused by the moisture in the air being release on the windy side or the top of the mountain. By the time the clouds reach the “backside” of the mountain, most of the moisture is gone leaving a dry area…also known as a rain shadow? An upper level trough of low pressure (“U” shaped shaded area) has moved Eastward and a weak ridge of high pressure (“Arch” shaped shaded area) has cleared us up just a bit for today as a warm front approaches. Another trough of low pressure  follows close behind and will be bringing the rain chance back quickly. A cold front will push through Oregon between Monday night and Tuesday.
