You Know They Occur On The Ocean, But On Lakes, Really?

Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is a “Dart Leader?” Here is the correct answer. A Dart Leader is a faint, negatively charged channel that travels more or less directly and continuously from cloud to ground. (It moves down and the lightning flash moves from the ground up.) I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. The first person to post the correct answer as a comment on this page will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs.  Good luck.

An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (Shaded “U” shape with arrows) slides slowly eastward bringing us colder Arctic air coming through Canada with northwesterly airflow rushing down on the backside of the low which is also the leading edge of a Ridge of High Pressure. Add that to the moisture the moved in and there’s the chance of some snow. The graphics for days 1-3 show the frontal system that is pushed through Oregon Saturday night and today. You can also see the surface low that slowly drifts over us. The graphics for days 3-7 show a frontal system that will move through the Pacific Northwest  next Sunday.

Note: So far, the Eugene-Springfield area has not received a significant snowfall. That has stayed to our north.
