Here is my weekly weather quiz question. What are “Detention Basins?”  And no, this has nothing to do with staying after school. The first person to post the correct answer as a comment on this page will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs.  Good luck.

Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (Shaded “Arch” shape with arrows) will dry us and warm us up a bit until the next Upper Level Low Pressure Trough moves in later this week. The graphics for days 1-3 show the lull in disturbances early this week. The graphics for days 3-7 show what looks to be a strong storm system headed through the Pacific Northwest Friday, then the next frontal systems will be approaching the Pacific Northwest Coast Sunday through next Tuesday.

Note: It looks like Willamette Pass Ski is closed for the season due to a lack of snow, but Hoodoo is open Thursday through Sunday from 9 AM- 4 PM or 9 PM. Mt. Ashland is open and reports all lifts are operating. They will also be open 9 AM until 4 pm March 24th through April 1st for Spring break. Check their websites for details on days of operation and ski conditions.

Note: Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 AM Sunday so remember to “Spring Forward!” at bedtime Saturday night by turning your clocks ahead one hour. The authorities also suggest that you check the batteries in your smoke alarms, CO2 detectors, and Radon detectors and replace them if necessary.
