Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is a “Diablo Wind?”  Here is the correct answer. A Diablo Wind is similar to Santa Ana winds in southern California. These winds occur below canyons in the East Bay hills (Diablo range) and in extreme cases can exceed 60 mph. They develop due to high pressure over Nevada and lower pressure along the central California coast. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. The first person to post the correct answer as a comment on this page will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs.  Good luck.

An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (Shaded “U” shape with arrows) is moving slowly eastward over us. An Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“U” shape with arrows) will take over to improve our weather for Monday, then another upper level low will try to bring back the showers Tuesday, but won’t bee very successful until Wednesday.  The graphics for days 3-7 show the next frontal systems that will be moving into the Pacific Northwest next Wednesday through Thursday.

Note: Willamette Pass Ski is closed for the season due to a lack of snow, but Hoodoo is open Thursday through Sunday from 9 AM- 4 PM or 9 PM. Mt. Ashland is open and reports all lifts are operating. They will also be open 9 AM until 4 pm March 24th through April 1st for Spring break. Check their websites for details on days of operation and ski conditions.
