An Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (Shaded “Arch” shape with arrows) has taken over returning the sunshine. An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (Shaded “U” shape with arrows) is moving closer sending storms our way by late in the week. The graphics for days 1-3 show the front that will approach the area Thursday AM. The graphics for days 3-7 show the next storm systems that will approach and try to move through the Pacific Northwest Saturday through next Wednesday.

Advisories:

  • THE OREGON HEALTH AUTHORITY HAS ISSUED A HEALTH ADVISORY FOR DETROIT LAKE , LOCATED 46 MILES SE OF SALEM. THE LAKE SPANS BOTH LINN AND MARION COUNTIES. WATER MONITORING HAS CONFIRMED THE PRESENCE OF BLUE-GREEN ALGAE AND THE TOXINS THEY PRODUCE IN DETROIT LAKE. PEOPLE SHOULD AVOID SWALLOWING WATER, OR INHALING WATER DROPLETS AS A RESULT OF HIGH-SPEED WATER ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS WATER SKIING OR POWER BOATING, IN AREAS WHERE BLOOMS ARE IDENTIFIED. ALSO KEEP PETS AWAY FROM THE WATER.
  • A PUBLIC HEALTH ADVISORY FOR HIGHER-THAN-NORMAL LEVELS OF BACTERIA IN OCEAN WATERS AT SUNSET BAY STATE PARK BEACH IN COOS COUNTY. WATER SAMPLES INDICATE HIGHER-THAN-NORMAL LEVELS OF FECAL BACTERIA, WHICH CAN CAUSE DIARRHEA, STOMACH CRAMPS, SKIN RASHES, UPPER RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS AND OTHER ILLNESSES. VISITORS SHOULD AVOID WADING IN NEARBY CREEKS, POOLS OF WATER ON THE BEACH, OR IN DISCOLORED WATER, AND STAY CLEAR OF WATER RUNOFF FLOWING INTO THE OCEAN. AUTHORITIES SAY IT IS SAFE TO CONTINUE OTHER ACTIVITIES ON THE BEACH THAT DO NOT INCLUDE CONTACT WITH WATER. THIS ADVISORY DOES NOT AFFECT OTHER NEIGHBORING BEACHES.
  • A PERMANENT HEALTH ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER BAR. POOLS IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP BLUE-GREEN ALGAE (CYANOBACTERIAL) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED ALONG SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE  RIVER.
