__________

Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What are “Gyres?”  Here is the correct answer. Gyres are oceanic current systems of planetary scale driven by the global wind system. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. The first person to post the correct answer as a comment on this page will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. Good luck.

_______ _________

A blocking Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (Shaded “arch” shape with arrows) continues to bring sunshine with mild daytime temperatures, but early next week an Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (Shaded “U” shape with arrows in same graphic) should bring some precipitation. The graphics for days 1-3 show a frontal system to our north today. The graphics for days 3-7  increasing frontal activity increasing in the Pacific Northwest Tuesday through next Saturday.

Note: The annual Orionid Meteor shower is in progress and peaks this weekend. For best viewing get away from the city lights and look up and to the northeast. The nearly full moon will make it more difficult to see the shower, so just before sunrise will be the best time because the moon will be setting.
