The upper air flow has been bending more from the west (called Zonal flow) and southwest bringing in warmer, but still very moist air into the Pacific Northwest. Notice the forecast is for the flow to switch more from the northwest cutting off the heavy moisture flow. The enhanced satellite loop over 3 hours shows the moisture that moved in was from the sub-tropics, otherwise known as the “pineapple express.” Remember that, particularly this time of the year, when it’s not raining it is usually fogging.
