An Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (Shaded “Arch” shape with arrows) has taken over bringing more sun and no precipitation, but it has given us falling overnight lows. The graphics for days 1-3 show a front approaching the Pacific Coast today, but high pressure should keep it at bay. The graphics for days 3-7  show a frontal system moving into the Pacific Northwest next Wednesday with another following behind it between Thursday and next Friday.

Advisories:

HEALTH ADVISORIES:

  • A PUBLIC HEALTH ADVISORY HAS BEEN LIFTED FOR HIGHER-THAN-NORMAL LEVELS OF BACTERIA AT SUNSET STATE PARK BEACH, LOCATED IN COOS COUNTY. WATER SAMPLES INDICATED HIGHER-THAN-NORMAL LEVELS OF FECAL BACTERIA, WHICH CAN CAUSE DIARRHEA, STOMACH CRAMPS, SKIN RASHES, UPPER RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS, AND OTHER ILLNESSES. LATEST RESULTS SHOW LOWER BACTERIA LEVELS. PEOPLE SHOULD AVOID LARGE POOLS OF WATER ON THE BEACH THAT ARE FREQUENTED BY BIRDS AND RUNOFF FROM THOSE POOLS BECAUSE THE WATER MAY CONTAIN INCREASED BACTERIA FROM FECAL MATTER.
  • A PERMANENT HEALTH ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER BAR. POOLS IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP BLUE-GREEN ALGAE (CYANOBACTERIAL) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED ALONG SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE  RIVER.
