Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is “Liquid Water Equivalent? ” Here is the correct answer. Water Equivalent is the liquid content of solid precipitation that has accumulated on the ground (snow depth). The accumulation may consist of snow, ice formed by freezing precipitation, freezing liquid precipitation, or ice formed by the refreezing of melted snow.

An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) is moving eastward and an Upper Level High Pressure Ridge is well offshore slowly heading toward the coast.  The graphics for days 1-3  show a weak surface wave moving over the Pacific Northwest today bringing cooler air with it, then warming Sunday and Monday. The graphics for days 3-7  Tuesday through next Saturday show a frontal system moving through Tuesday and Wednesday then another front looks like it will fall apart along the coast Friday, yet another front stalled offshore next Saturday.

ADVISORIES
  • NONE AT THIS TIME.

HEALTH ADVISORIES:

  • A PUBLIC HEALTH ADVISORY ISSUED DUE TO UNSAFE LEVELS OF FECAL BACTERIA IN OCEAN WATERS AT NYE BEACH IN LINCOLN COUNTY HAS BEEN LIFTED. IT IS STILL A GOOD IDEA FOR VISITORS TO AVOID WADING IN NEARBY  CREEKS, POOLS OF WATER ON THE BEACH, OR IN DISCOLORED WATER, AND STAY CLEAR OF WATER RUNOFF FLOWING INTO THE OCEAN.
  • A PERMANENT HEALTH ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER BAR. POOLS IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP BLUE-GREEN ALGAE (CYANOBACTERIAL) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED ALONG SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE  RIVER.
