Tim Chuey Weather
Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is a “Mountainado? ” Here is the correct answer. A Mountainado is a vertical-axis eddy produced in a downslope windstorm by the vertical stretching of horizontal roll vortices produced near the ground by vertical wind shear. Mountainadoes, when carried by the mean wind, can produce strong horizontal shears and wind gusts that are much more damaging than the general prevailing wind speeds.

An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) offshore keeps our weather pattern stable with a bit above normal temperatures. The graphics for days 1-3  show a frontal system falling apart just to our north. The graphics for days 3-7   Tuesday through Saturday show a frontal system moving through Tuesday and Wednesday with another approaching the coast next Thursday and Friday. So far the wildfire smoke has been staying in Eastern Lane County, but if the winds shift that might not be the case. Haze over Eugene and Springfield is the only sign of the wildfires.
