Tim Chuey Weather

Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is a “Mountainado? ” Here is the correct answer. A Mountainado is a vertical-axis eddy produced in a downslope windstorm by the vertical stretching of horizontal roll vortices produced near the ground by vertical wind shear. Mountainadoes, when carried by the mean wind, can produce strong horizontal shears and wind gusts that are much more damaging than the general prevailing wind speeds.

An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) keeps our weather pattern stable with a bit above normal temperatures. The graphics for days 1-3  show a frontal system moving in between today and tonight. The graphics for days 3-7   Wednesday through Sunday show a frontal system moving through Wednesday. Wildfire haze and smoke have finally reached Eugene and Springfield.
