The upper airflow (look at the little arrows along the coast) is swinging around to start bringing warmer more moist air into Oregon. A frontal system is approaching the coast of California (see last frame of animation). It will move in and spread moisture northward over us. That sets up a situation that could produce some nasty weather conditions, especially when that air mass first gets here.

ANOTHER IS IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH LATE FRIDAY NIGHT FOR THE CENTRAL COAST RANGE, FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON FOR THE FOOTHILLS OF THHE NORTH CASCADES..  A FREEZE WARNING IS IN EFFECT FROM 11 PM TONIGHT  THROUGH 9 AM FRIDAY. For the Willamette Valley: Sunny skies today high 29-31 mostly clear overnight low 17-20. A WINTER STORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH  LATE FRIDAY NIGHT. Friday some AM clouds, then mostly cloudy in the afternoon with a (30%) chance of rain, freezing rain, and snow high 30-34,  mostly cloudy at night with a (50%) chance of rain and light freezing rain low 28-32. AM rain and light freezing rain likely (60%) Saturday then rain likely (60%) for the afternoon with a slight chance of freezing rain high 36-39.  Saturday night rain will be likely (60%) and it will be warmer low 34-36. Mostly cloudy Sunday with a (50%) chance of rain high 44-46. Mostly cloudy with a (50%) chance of rain Sunday night lows 38-43. Mostly cloudy with rain likely (60-70%) Monday through Wednesday highs warming from 44-50 lows 35-39.

For the Umpqua Basin: Today will be sunny in the AM then partly cloudy by afternoon high 33-35.  Tonight partly cloudy low 26-28. Friday mostly cloudy with a good  (50%) chance of rain and snow in the morning (snow level 2,500′  in the afternoon)and a chance of rain in the afternoon high 36-40. Chance of rain  (70%) Friday night and a bit warmer low 36-39. Rain will be likely (60%) Saturday through Wednesday highs warming slowly from 45-50 lows in the upper 30s to low 40s.

Forecast for the South Coast: Skies will be partly cloudy today high 42-44, then partly cloudy at night low 28-30. Mostly cloudy Friday with a chance of rain in the AM (snow level 500′) rain likely (60%) in the afternoon high 47. Cloudy with rain Friday night low near 39-43. Rain likely (60%) Saturday and Saturday night high 48-50 low 44. Showers likely Sunday with a chance of rain (70%) Sunday night low in the low 40s. Rain likely (60%) Monday through Wednesday highs 47-55 lows mid to upper 40s.

For the Cascades: The free air freezing level will be at the surface today and tonight going to 2,500′ in the afternoon Friday and Friday night, then a snow level to the surface Saturday and 3,500′ Saturday night, down to the surface Sunday and Sunday night. Monday the snow level will back to 3,000′, 4,000′ Monday night, and 5,000′ Tuesday, and 4,500′ Tuesday night and Wednesday .
