Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is “Steam Fog?” Here is the correct answer. Steam Fog is fog formed when water vapor is added to air which is much colder than the source of the vapor. It may be formed when very cold air drifts across relatively warm water. At temperatures below about-20°F, ice particles or droxtals may be formed in the air producing a type of ice fog known as frost smoke.

____________

An Upper Level High Pressure is still in charge of our weather pattern. The graphics for days 1-3 show a cold front just offshore Tuesday  The graphics for days 3-7   Wednesday through Sunday show a weak cold front will be moving into the Pacific Northwest Wednesday. Then a complex frontal system will be offshore and moving in Friday and Friday night.

Note: Lane County residents will have to wait until Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at the earliest for the opening of the fall outdoor burning season. The season is typically scheduled to start on October 1 each year. However, the decision to delay has been jointly made by the Lane County Fire Defense Board and the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF).
