Tim Chuey Weather

Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is the “Statosphere”? Here is the correct answer. The Stratosphere is the region of the atmosphere extending from the top of the troposphere to the base of the mesosphere, an important area for monitoring stratospheric ozone. Stratospheric Ozone In the stratosphere, ozone has beneficial properties where it forms an ozone shield that prevents dangerous radiation from reaching the Earth’s surface. Recently, it was discovered that in certain parts of the world, especially over the poles, stratospheric ozone was disappearing creating an ozone hole.

An Upper Level High Pressure Ridge  (“Arch” shape) brings plenty of sunshine through the weekend. The graphics for days 1-3 show no frontal systems moving through Oregon. The graphics for days 3-7   Tuesday through Saturday show a complex frontal system sliding through Tuesday and another one Wednesday night and Thursday with a third front offshore next Friday.

Note: Lane County residents will have to wait until Friday, November 1, 2024, at the earliest for the opening of the fall outdoor burning season. The season is typically scheduled to start on October 1st each year. However, the decision to delay has been jointly made by the Lane County Fire Defense Board and the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF).
