Tim Chuey Weather

Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is the “Thermocline “? Here is the correct answer. The Thermocline : As one descends from the surface of the ocean, the temperature remains nearly the same as it was at the surface, but at a certain depth temperature starts decreasing rapidly with depth. This boundary is called the thermocline. In studying the tropical Pacific Ocean, the depth of 20ºC water (“the 20ºC isotherm”) is often used as a proxy for the depth of the thermocline. Along the equator, the 20ºC isotherm is typically located at about 50 m depth in the eastern Pacific, sloping downwards to about 150 m in the western Pacific.

____________

The Jet stream is still sending cold air southward into the Pacific Northwest producing cold overnight temperatures and cooler than normal high temperatures. The graphics for days 1-3 show no frontal systems.  The graphics for days 3-7   Tuesday through Saturday show no serious frontal activity over the Pacific Northwest through the period. A cold front will be to our Northwest next Saturday.

Note: Ski Report: Willamette Pass Ski announced it is open now for early season skiing,  Hoodoo will be opening open today and Sunday, Mt. Ashland announced opening day will be Friday December 6th.  Check their Web sites for specific mountain conditions and hours of operation.
