The Upper level low pressure (Shaded “U” shape with blue arrows) that send moisture our way and its associated surface system are being replaced for a short time by high pressure.  The days 1-3 graphic shows the surface lows and frontal systems that tried to bring rain and snow to us. Other parts of the Pacific Northwest specifically to our North (15.5 in. of snow at Portland West Hills/Forest Heights.) did see the snow, but not in the South Willamette Valley. The graphic for days 3-7 shows no slowdown in frontal systems that will be headed our way through next week. The Jet Stream (Shaded area with blue arrows) continues sending warmer air in to replace the colder air at the surface. Another disturbance will return the chance of snow by late Tuesday.  The days 1-3 graphic shows the next surface low and frontal system heading inland Tuesday into Wednesday on a similar track as the previous storm. The graphic for days 3-7 shows no slowdown in frontal systems that will be headed our way in the near future. Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is an“Adiabatic Lapse Rate?” Here is the correct answer. An Adiabatic Lapse Rate is the rate of decrease of temperature experienced by a parcel of air when it is lifted in the atmosphere under the restriction that it cannot exchange heat with its environment. An Upper level High (Shaded “Arch” shape with blue arrows) to our Northwest is still sending cold air down to us from Canada. The days 1-3 graphic shows  surface low and frontal system brought us another snow and ice storm as the warm air ahead of the front met the cold air already in place at the surface. The graphic for days 3-7 shows another series frontal systems that will be headed our way next week.
