An upper level High Pressure ridge is still keeping our weather dry but that is going to change. If you look at the little arrows you will see the airflow has been moving in from the East and Northeast. The first frontal system will spread the rain from the South to the North as it moves in from the South. That will change and onshore flow will start bringing more moisture our way and that will mean a series of storms will march into the Pacific Northwest keeping us wet.

Sorry but no winner in this week’s weather quiz. Two people did answer it correctly, but they have won before. There is a limit of one win per every 6 months so they are not able to win. Here is the question again. Why can the mercury never drop below -40 degrees F? The answer is that mercury freezes at -40F. Another kind of thermometer, like one with an alcohol-filled tube or other devices like electrical resistance thermometers must be used. Another quiz will start Monday.

An upper level High Pressure ridge is still keeping our weather dry through Saturday. The next frontal system will change the weather back to wetter by Sunday. An Upper level High Pressure ridge, as you can see by the shaded area off the coast and the little arrows inside,  will keep our weather dry through Christmas day. The next cold front will change the weather back to wet over the weekend. If you’re looking for a white Christmas you’ll have to look somewhere else. It’s going to be very snowy in the Midwest and the worst we’ll see is a little ice formed when fog freezes to surfaces.

Here’s my weekly weather quiz question again. Why can the mercury never drop below -40 degrees F? Please place your question as a comment on this page. The first person to answer correctly wins one week of free personalized forecasts tailored to your needs.
