The high pressure ridge that gave us such a great weekend is moving eastward  as a trough of low pressure (shaded area that’s “U” shaped offshore) will start pumping moist air and sending a frontal system our way. The warm front will push to our North, but the cold front will sweep into Western Oregon and the trough will slowly migrate to the east keeping the chace for wet weather with us for the week.

Sorry, but no winner this week. Here is the answer to this week’s weather quiz question. What name is given precipitation that falls from a cloud, but evaporates before it reaches the ground? It is seen as dark streaks coming out of the cloud. It is called ” Virga” which means “twig” in Latin. I’ll have another weekly weather quiz question beginning next Monday.  The first person to post the correct answer will win one week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs.

______________

An upper level low is moving slowly to the South East (see the blue arrows in the gray “U” shape off the North Washington coast). It is pushing a weak frontal system to the North and East with the strongest portion North of us and the weaker part dissolving as it moves through. That means we will see hardly and precipitation and quickly return to sunshine and much warmer temperatures. The high pressure ridge that is offshore West of the low (see how the blue arrows form an arch) will be bringing back the dry weather.   The next storm system will move in between Monday and Tuesday.

Here is your very last chance to answer my weekly weather quiz question. This week’s question shouldn’t be too hard. It’s time again for my weekly weather quiz question. This week’s question shouldn’t be too hard. What name is given precipitation that falls from a cloud, but evaporates before it reaches the ground? It is seen as dark streaks coming out of the cloud. Please post your answer as a comment after these forecasts. The first person to post the correct answer will win one week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. Good luck.

An upper level low is moving slowly to the East (see the blue arrows moving in a counterclockwise direction). It’s now South of us. A frontal system has moved through Oregon and there have been some showers on the backside of the front. There is another storm developing offshore, but high pressure will return to dry us a bit, as we will be between storm systems but it won’t last long as the next frontal system will move through the Pacific Northwest between Friday night and Saturday.
