Here’s my new weekly weather quiz question. This is the description of an Oregon disaster. “Every major highway in Oregon was closed, cutting off entire cities from emergency supplies. Fifteen people were killed and more than 11,000 were homeless. The governor activated the Civil Defense emergency radio network for the first time in Oregon history to declare the entire state a disaster area.” What was the disaster and when did it occur? Please place your answer as a comment after the forecasts. The first person to post the correct answer will win one week of  free personalized forecasts tailored to your needs. Good luck.
_______________

A stronger  upper level High Pressure ridge (the “arch” shaped portion of the yellow lines over the Pacific) is moving toward us and will switch our airflow from onshore to offshore warming us up quite rapidly. Some locations in the valleys will see 90 degrees or above before the end of next week as a result of that strong high pressure ridge.

_______________

Advisories:  A HEAT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM WEDNESDAY UNTIL 9 PM THURSDAY FOR THE CENTRAL OREGON COAST, THE COAST RANGE, THE ENTIRE I-5 CORRIDOR FROM PORTLAND THROUGH EUGENE AND SOUTH TO COTTAGE GROVE, THE CASCADE FOOTHILLS (INCLUDING THE FOOTHILLS OF LANE COUNTY), AND THE UPPER HOOD RIVER VALLEY.

Don’t forget to fly the flag for the whole Independence Day weekend

_______________

An upper level trough of low pressure (See the “U” shaped yellow line) is moving away from Oregon which will means the onshore flow that brought more clouds and cooler temperatures is leaving. It will be warming a bit today because an upper air ridge of high pressure (the “arch” shaped portion of the yellow lines over the Pacific) will take over. This also means good weather for the “Butte to Butte” this morning and better picnic weather for this afternoon. It looks like the only chance of getting wet will be at the lake or pool, or possibly in the mountains. Some locations in the valleys could see 90 degrees or above before the end of next week, then it will cool off a bit. So typical that the weather gets sunnier and warmer AFTER the 4th of July holiday weekend.

Looks like no winner for my weekly weather quiz. Which President of the United States holds the record for the coldest and the warmest inauguration day? The answer is Ronald Reagan. His first inauguration, on January 20 1981, was the warmest ever (noon temperature 55 degrees) and for his second inauguration, which was the coldest ever, the temperature was 7 degrees and a wind chill temperature of -10 to -20 degrees. The second one was held inside due to the very cold temperatures. I’ll have another weekly quiz question for you Monday.  The first person to post the correct answer will win one free week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs.

Don't forget to fly the flag for the whole Independence Day weekend

_______________

Today is your last chance to answer my weekly weather quiz question. This is a “different” kind of question. Which President of the United States holds the record for the coldest and the warmest inauguration day? If you know when (the dates) you’ll get an extra round of applause. Please post your answer as a comment after these forecasts. The first person to post the correct answer will win one free week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. Good luck.

An upper level low (See the concentric circles in the Gulf of Alaska) is sliding down the large upper level trough of low pressure (“U” shaped yellow line) is moving closer Oregon which will means more onshore flow that is dropping a cold front through Oregon. We will see more clouds and cooler temperatures again with at least a chance of sprinkles. It will be warming a bit by the 4th of July Holiday. This also means pretty good weather for the “Butte to Butte” Sunday and Saturday’s ”Pre  Classic.” It looks like the only chance of getting wet on the 4th of July will be at the lake or pool, or possibly in the mountains. Wow! We could break 90 degrees by Wednesday and Thursday in the valleys.
