Here is my new weather quiz question for this week. There is an old saying “Cold is the night when the stars shine bright.” What does this saying mean and how does it happen? Please post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments/comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized  weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

_______________

An upper air high pressure ridge (“arch” shape)  cleared out the clouds through a good portion of Saturday and as bit of Sunday, but we are back to wet as a series of low pressure troughs approach and  the first in a series of frontal systems returns the rain for the week. Another storm system will be approaching the coast Wednesday, followed by yet another frontal system Sunday.

An upper air high pressure ridge (“arch” shape) has cleared out the clouds, but we’ll go back to wet as a low pressure trough approaches and a frontal system returns the rain for your Sunday. More frontal systems will move in next week so it looks like the Spring rains will continue. Sorry, but you’ll need an umbrella or a coat to protect your Easter outfit for this morning and the rest of the day for Easter Sunday. It might be a good idea to have Easter egg hunts indoors if possible.

Sorry but no winner for my weather quiz question for this week. Who created the “F” scale to determine the strength of tornadoes? Leslie Prieto did get it right, but I didn’t publish it because she was last week’s winner. I have a rule that you might not remember that you can win only one time in a 6-month period. Here is her correct answer: Tetsuya Theodore “Ted” Fujita  is famous for developing the Fujita Tornado Intensity Scale, a scale used to measure the strength of a tornado based on the damage it produces. I was lucky enough to have a phone conversation with him back when I was working on an independent work study project on severe weather while attending Memphis State University, now known as the University of Memphis. I’ll have another question for you starting next Monday.

That means some more clouds on  with skies partly cloudy. Another frontal system will move in early next week so it looks like the Spring rains will continue. Sorry, but you’ll need an umbrella or a coat to protect your Easter outfit for “Sunrise Services” and the rest of the day Easter Sunday. Here is my weather quiz question for this week. This is your last chance this week to win. Who created the “F” scale to determine the strength of tornadoes? Please post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments/comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized  weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

An upper air high pressure ridge (“arch” shape) has cleared out the clouds, but we’ll go back to wet as a low pressure trough approaches and a frontal system returns the rain for Sunday. That means some more clouds on Saturday with skies partly cloudy. It looks like the rain will hold off until Saturday night. Another frontal system will move in early next week so it looks like the Spring rains will continue. Sorry, but you’ll need an umbrella or a coat to protect your Easter outfit for “Sunrise Services” and the rest of the day Easter Sunday. It might be a good idea to have Easter egg hunts indoors if possible.

Advisories:  NONE AT THIS TIME. Watch out for local frost overnight tonight for the I-5 Corridor from Portland through the Eugene/Springfield area, and the upper Hood River valley.

An upper air trough of low pressure (“U” shape) moved across Oregon and high pressure (“arch” shape) behind it will clear out the clouds and rain for Friday, but then back to wet as a low pressure trough and a frontal system will return the rain for Sunday.( If the clouds clear out in time and the fog hasn’t formed yet, you may be able to see the annual Lyrid meteor shower early Friday morning. As many as 20 meteors per hour may be visible, although visibility will be reduced by bright moonlight. The best time to look is Friday morning during the hours before dawn and make sure you are away from city lights.)  Another frontal system move in early next week so it looks like the Spring rains will continue.
