A high pressure ridge is building offshore as the low pressure trough moves Eastward away from us. That will help clear us out and warm us up early next week so that we can begin Summer  on a warmer note. The computer guidance is indicating dry and warmer, at least normal temperatures, but not for all of next week. The forecast does not reflect this yet, but a trough of low pressure will move out of the Gulf of Alaska bringing clouds, cooler temperatures and, yes, maybe even the chance of showers by mid to late week.

Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What was the first recorded European settlement to be destroyed by a hurricane?  Hint: a famous explorer founded the town. Here is the answer. The first European settlement to be destroyed by a hurricane was the small town of Isabella, founded by Christopher Columbus on the Island of Hispaniola. Columbus was lucky on his first few voyages managing to avoid running into any hurricanes. In 1495 a hurricane struck and destroyed Isabella which Columbus named after the Spanish Queen who financed his explorations. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting next Monday. Please post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments/comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized  weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count.

The upper air wind flow will continue to push marine air in from the west as yet another upper level trough moves through Oregon. That will keep us in the pattern of clouds and just a chance of showers over the weekend. High pressure will build offshore and help clear us out and warm us up early next week.

The upper air wind flow will continue to push marine air in from the west as yet another upper level trough follows on the heels of the one that’s leaving. That will keep us in the pattern of clouds, sunshine and just a chance of showers mainly in the mountains and foothills. Another weak frontal system approaches the coast late in the week showing no change in the current weather pattern except that Summer could actually begin with warmer summertime temperatures.
