We have a Winner! Congratulations to Vanessa.  You are the winner of this week’s weather quiz question. Just go to the contact section of my website and email me at the address shown there to let me know when you might want to use your week of personalized forecasts. Phillip Roberts answered correctly too, but Vanessa was first.

________________

Here is my weekly weather quiz question repeated for the last time. Define the term “deliquescence.” here is Vanessa’s correct answer. “deliquescence: the ability of a substance to attract and hold water molecules from the surrounding environment.” Humid days are hazy because many particles in the air absorb water vapor and grow large enough to scatter all light waves as humidity increases. When the humidity is less than 100%, the growth and added water absorption of a particle is called “deliquescence.” I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting next Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count.

You might want to give it a try anyway, but make sure you dress warm. And yes, you can look directly at a lunar eclipse because it is only reflected light from the sun.

A high pressure ridge (“Arch” shape on the jet stream) is keeping us cold with some possible sunshine, at least outside the Southern Willamette valley as long as the fog clears. That also means that our air quality is still suffering with the sinking air of high pressure holding on to the pollutants at the surface. The ridge will slide over  to be replaced by a low pressure trough (“U” shape on the jet stream) allowing more clouds, warmer temperatures, and maybe even a chance of precipitation returning over the weekend as a cold front moves in from the northwest. The full ” Cold” moon will occur Saturday at 6:36 AM and there will be a total eclipse of the moon just before dawn, but the clouds will probably cover the sky even if it doesn’t rain.

The ridge will slide over allowing more clouds, warmer temperatures, and maybe even a chance of precipitation returning over the weekend as a cold front moves in from the northwest. The full ” Cold” moon will occur Saturday at 6:36 AM and there will be a total eclipse of the moon just before dawn, but the clouds will probably cover the sky even if it doesn’t rain.
