Sorry, no winner this week. Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. We all know that tornadoes are dangerous and can kill. What were the deadliest tornadoes recorded in the U.S.?  The April 25–28, 2011 tornado outbreak was the largest single-system tornado outbreak ever recorded. It was also the costliest and one of the deadliest tornado outbreaks in history. The outbreak affected a large swath of the Southern, Midwestern, and Northeastern United States, leaving catastrophic destruction in its wake, especially across the state of Alabama.[7  For more details go to this Outbreak Summary. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

frontal system pushed through the Pacific Northwest and cleared us out after it passed. A building upper level ridge of high pressure (shaded “Arch”shape in blue arrows) cleared us out today and that will continue into early next week. The next frontal system will slowly move in Wednesday pushing rain out ahead of it.

A short-lived high pressure ridge (shaded “Arch” shape) has taken over just in time for Thanksgiving bringing out the sunshine and drying us out. A frontal system (shown still well offshore) and an upper level trough of low pressure (moving out of the Gulf of Alaska) will push into Oregon Friday bringing back the wet weather, but that won’t last too long. Again, please make sure the storm drains on your street are clear of debris so they will have a better chance of staying clear when the next wave of rain hits. Building high pressure at the surface (blue “H”) and aloft, will clear us out again Sunday into early next week. In other words we’ll be on an interesting roller coaster ride for a while fighting between clouds and sun and wet and dry.

An upper level trough of low pressure (shaded “U” shape) pushed more than one frontal system through Oregon bringing more rain and wind. Weak high pressure has taken over just in time for Thanksgiving. We will turn to dwindling showers tonight and dry out on Thanksgiving Day, but it will still be a good day to stay indoors and eat turkey (or Tofurkey). Another frontal system (position shown is Saturday) will march through Oregon Friday bringing back the wet weather.  Again, make sure the storm drains on your street are clear of debris so the will have a better chance of staying clear when the next wave of rain hits.

An upper level trough of low pressure (shaded “U” shape) coming out of the Gulf of Alaska  is pushed a frontal system through Oregon bringing more rain and wind, but not as severe as the one Monday. Weak high pressure will take over just in time for Thanksgiving. We will turn to less intense showers as something to be thankful for on Thanksgiving Day, but it will still be a good day to stay indoors and eat turkey (or Tofurkey). Another frontal system will march through Oregon later this week assuring the wet weather will stick around. We’ll have to keep an eye out for more flooded streets due to plugged storm drains and keep watching water levels if you live near a river or stream.
