Sorry, but no winner this week. Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is “popcorn convection?” Here is the correct answer. Popcorn Convection is slang for showers and thunderstorms that form on a scattered basis with little or no apparent organization, usually during the afternoon in response to diurnal heating. Individual thunderstorms typically are of the type sometimes referred to as air-mass thunderstorms: they are small, short-lived, very rarely severe, and they almost always dissipate near or just after sunset. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

An upper level high pressure ridge (Shaded “Arch” shape with blue arrows) has taken control of our weather. It will be sunny, hot and hazy again today. Winds are now from the northeast pushing more smoke from the wildfire near Oakridge to penetrate into the valley areas through today. A cold front will move into Oregon Monday afternoon hopefully cleaning the smoke from the valley.
