A blocking Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (Shaded “arch” shape with arrows) continues to bring sunshine with mild daytime temperatures, but early next week an Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (Shaded “U” shape with arrows in same graphic) should bring some precipitation. The graphics for days 1-3 show a frontal system to our north Saturday. The graphics for days 3-7  increasing frontal activity increasing in the Pacific Northwest Tuesday through next Saturday.

Note: The annual Orionid Meteor shower is in progress and peaks this weekend. For best viewing get away from the city lights and look up and to the northeast. The nearly full moon will make it more difficult to see the shower, so just before sunrise will be the best time because the moon will be setting.

Here is my weekly weather quiz question. What are “Gyres?”  The first person to post the correct answer as a comment on this page will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. Good luck.

_______ _________

A blocking Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (Shaded “arch” shape with arrows) continues to bring sunshine with mild daytime temperatures, but cold enough at night for some patchy fog. The graphics for days 3-7  show no frontal systems approaching the Pacific Northwest for the week as the blocking high pressure continues to remain with us, however a frontal system is shown approaching the Oregon coast next Tuesday.

Note: Due to the continued fire danger, the outdoor burning season has been delayed until this Saturday October 20th. The next update on the burning season will be issued at 7 pm this Friday October 19th. Remember, burning is always prohibited within the city of Eugene.
