Sorry, no winner for this week’s Weather Quiz Question. Who invented “weather radar?” The answer is quite simple. No one actually invented radar for the purpose of tracking weather. It’s not really a trick question.  Radar, which stands for radio detection and ranging, was developed during World War II as a means of tracking airplanes and warships. During early experiments in the U.S. and Britain, strange radar echoes were noted that turned out to be unwanted reflections from rain storms. While this posed a problem for the military, it was the basis of modern radar meteorology. I’ll have another weekly weather quiz question for you an Monday. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your specific needs. Good luck!

A high pressure ridge , called an “Omega Block” because it is shaped like the Greek letter omega, will get stronger and move North a bit, but still plenty of sunshine and mild temperatures through the weekend into early next week. A storm will brush the extreme southern part of Oregon, mainly along the coast, which could produce a bit of rain on Sunday. A weak storm system will move toward the West Coast between Tuesday night and Wednesday and that will be our next chance for rain in Western Oregon.
