Here is my weekly weather quiz question. Who worked on mathematical models for weather prediction providing the basis for the first successful numerical (computer) forecasting models? He is also credited with predicting the existence of jet streams and developing the main theories describing their behavior. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized  weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. An upper level trough of low pressure (“U” shape) is moving across the Pacific Northwest spreading some showers mainly from the Northern third of Oregon (North of Corvallas) North into Washington. Behind it will be a high pressure ridge (“arch” shape) that should dry us out for a while at least. A new frontal system aims at the Pacific Northwest on Saturday moving in by Sunday. Will it bring just clouds or will we get even more showers?

Here are your detailed forecasts.**

An upper level trough of low pressure (“U” shape) will be moving across Oregon.  Will we will see a change in our weather pattern over next weekend?  It is too soon to get too excited about it until there is some hard evidence it is possible. Add in the fact that there is a chance another low pressure trough will be enhanced by the remnants of a Pacific system and produce clouds and showers for the weekend. A new frontal system aims at the Pacific Northwest on Saturday moving in by Sunday. That could put a “damper” on the possible sunshine and warmer weather for part of the weekend into next week.

_______________

It’s Monday and time for a new weekly weather quiz question. Good luck.

An upper level trough of low pressure (“U” shape) has moved in along the coast and will keep us alternating between periods of  clouds and cooler temperatures, and rain or drizzle and even a thunderstorm thrown in for good measure, then back to less cloudy and slightly warming temperatures until late next week. A frontal system will be approaching the Pacific Northwest by midweek which would indicate the that there seems to be no end to this wet “Springlike” weather pattern soon. We could see a change over next weekend, but it is too soon to get too excited about it until there is some hard evidence it is possible.
