Sorry, but no winner this week.

Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is a hair hygrometer and for what purpose is it used? Here is the answer. A hair hygrometer is an instrument used to measure relative humidity by using a strand of human hair. Human hair grows longer as the humidity rises and shorter as it falls. The hair absorbs more water when there is more water vapor in the air, which pushes the hair molecules apart. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count.

high pressure ridge (“Arch” shape on yellow line) has been dominating our weather pattern, but some weak storms have been sneaking in under it (see shaded area bulging into California and Oregon).  A frontal system moved through the Pacific Northwest and brought showers with it. High pressure strengthened  today allowing for clearing and sunshine. Then yet another disturbance pushes through Sunday dragging rain with it. A trough of low pressure will set up offshore and even more frontal systems will keep the showers around through next week.

High pressure strengthens today allowing for clearing and sunshine. Then yet another disturbance pushes through Sunday dragging rain with it. Even more frontal systems will keep the showers around through next week.
