Weak high pressure will give us a nice day today. It will be dry with a mix of clouds and sun after AM fog or low clouds high 61. The weather in Washington will be similar for the Ducks game at 12:30 PM warming to the upper 50s by the end of the game. No problem weatherwise for the Beavers in Southern California. Another warm front followed by a cold front will bring the rain back. After AM fog/clouds, rain will be likely Sunday and Sunday night with a high near 60 low 45. Showers will be likely Monday and just a touch cooler. Tuesday will see a 30% chance of showers and a high in the mid to upper 50s and lows dropping to 40 and below. Wednesday and Thursday and Friday there will still be a 20%-30% chance of on-again off-again showers with some sun, highs in the mid to upper 50s and lows in the upper 30s.

We have a winner in this week’s weather quiz. Here is the question again. What meteorological instrument was invented by Samuel F. B. Morse and what was it’s meteorological function? The answer is obviously the telegraph, but the second part is just as important. Congratulations to Rocky Davis for also explaining that the telegraph was used to warn people down the line of approaching bad weather. Rocky wins one week of free forecasts tailored to his needs. A cold front is on it’s way to bring us rain, possibly some seriously heavy rain, from an old typhoon who’s remnants have been sucked in with the front. Behind that one is another one so plan on wet weather for a while. The rain chance will increase from slight this morning to 50% this afternoon with a mild high of 69. Lots of rain Saturday with a high of 66. There will be just a chance of showers Sunday and cooler only to 60 for the high. Rain will be likely again Monday from another storm that will keep the high in the mid to upper 50s. Highs near 60 and a chance of showers will be the forecast Tuesday through Thursday. Remember another weekly weather quiz will start on Monday.

Congratulations to Tim Fassbender for correctly answering this week’s weather question. What is the driest continent. Tim gave the most complete answer possible. “Australia is the driest inhabited continent. Antarctica is the driest of all the continents.” Tim came close on last week’s quiz just having too many 0’s in the number. He wins a week of free personalized forecasts. Good job Tim!

The Jet Stream is bringing in plenty of moisture from the Pacific Ocean and will continue sending frontal systems to us. Rain is likely this morning, then a lesser chance this afternoon. The high will be near 70 because of the passage of a weak warm front followed by the cold front between Friday night and Saturday. It will be mostly dry with fog overnight tonight. Friday will be mostly cloudy with a chance of rain and a high in the low 70s. It’s back to the mid 60s  for Saturday. Look for a chance of showers Sunday through Wednesday with highs near 60.

Don’t forget this week’s weather quiz. What is the driest continent? Please place your answer in the comments section. The first person to post the correct answer will win one week of free weather forecasts to suit your needs. Good luck.

The first in a series of cold fronts has brought rainy weather back to the Pacific Northwest. A large trough of Low Pressure (shaded area) is set up to keep sending these fronts our way.

Look for mostly cloudy skies and rain today with the high at 62. Rain will be likely late tonight then a 50% chance of rain for Thursday. More storm systems will give us the chance of rain for the weekend into early next week with highs from 60-65 except for mid to upper 60s Thursday and Friday. The coast will be similar to the Willamette Valley while Roseburg will be a bit warmer Thursday and Friday.

Don’t forget this week’s weather quiz. What is the driest continent? Please place your answer in the comments section. The first person to post the correct answer will win one week of free weather forecasts to suit your needs. Good luck.
