Upper level low pressure (“U” shape offshore) is sliding to the South and will move Eastward changing our airflow from Westerly to Easterly sending warmer dry air at us from the East and Southeast. A frontal system has moved through Northern California, but not as far to the South as I expected. Thats why the clouds moved Saturday afternoon and they capped off the high temperature for the Eugene-Springfield area to slightly lower levels than predicted, but still much warmer than normal. Next week we will return to well below normal temperatures and precipitation. One frontal system will move in Tuesday cooling temperatures and bringing showers, then yet another frontal system slides in Friday.

Upper level low pressure (“U” shape offshore) is sliding slowly into Oregon keeping the flow of moisture aimed at us. The wet weather will continue through today. Still cooler than normal, but the computer models show we’ll dry out, really warm up,  and see increased sunshine over the weekend because of the change in airflow from the East and Southeast where the air is dry and warmer. It’s still too early to be certain of that yet, but the weather looks fine for the main events of the Prefontaine Classic Saturday. A frontal system will pass South of us Sunday and should bring us only some more clouds. The shower chances will return by late Monday and Monday night.

Congratulations to  ”Blaze” for being the first to post the correct answer to this week’s  weather quiz question. What is a growler?  The answer posted “A growler is a iceberg that is almost completely submerged” is correct. The growler is one of the many names of sea ice. It refers to a patch of floating ice, often originating from an iceberg, that floats low in the water and sometimes appears greenish in color. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting next Monday. Please post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments/comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized  weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count.

Today, June 1st, is the official beginning of the Atlantic-Caribbean tropical storm season For updates on where tropical storms or hurricanes are headed just go to The National Weather Service Hurricane Center website.

_______________

Upper level low pressure (“U” shape offshore) is sliding slowly into Oregon keeping the flow of moisture aimed at us.  A frontal system has moved through the Pacific Northwest bringing with it more rain and possible thunderstorms. A new frontal system will push through the Pacific Northwest this week (position shown is Friday) increasing the precipitation chances once again and the wet weather will continue through most of the week. There will still be some sun breaks even on the rainy days ahead. Still cooler than normal, but there is hope in the computer models that we’ll dry out, warm up,  and see increased sunshine over the weekend. It’s still too early to be certain of that yet.
